ABOUT US

The Malaysian Dutch Business Council (MDBC) helps to forge and foster business ties between Malaysia and the Netherlands.  The broader aim of the Council is to further facilitate investment by Dutch and Malaysian companies in each other's countries and to increase trade opportunities.

Established in 1996 by Malaysian and Dutch companies, MDBC is a private, well established, trade support organization with over 200 member companies.  It is considered one of the most active councils in Kuala Lumpur and in Malaysia as a whole.

MDBC achieves its high standards through the successful execution of its three objectives:

Representation:
MDBC serves as a link to other bi-lateral Business Associations and Chambers of Commerce. We actively participate in the dialogue amongst European Union member states in Malaysia and we have a seat on the Board and Exco of the European-Union Malaysia Chamber of Commerce & Industry (EUMCCI).

We also have established relations with various government institutions. The common business interests of our members as well as individual needs of companies are voiced through MDBC to the appropriate authorities in Malaysia.

Information:
MDBC provides business information services to our members. MDBC also assists members and newcomers to the Malaysian market on issues related to setting up a company or a rep office here.

MDBC keeps our members updated on the latest developments in the business world and members' news through our quarterly publication -the MDBC Magazine, the organization of informative & educational events and through our website and e - mailings.  In addition to the Magazine, MDBC also publishes a Business Directory every 18 months.

Networking & Events:
Through regular (monthly) events, members are able to develop good business contacts with the Dutch business community in Malaysia, as well as with other foreign companies, Malaysian counterparts and government bodies.  In 2010, MDBC members received a total of 36 event invitations, an average of 3 per month!

In addition to the Business Luncheon presentations, seminars, meetings & dialogue sessions with relevant Malaysian institutions and visits to companies, exhibitions or projects, numerous social networking events are organized together with other Business Associations and Chambers of Commerce to further extend networking opportunities.

Together with the Economic & Trade Department of the Netherlands Embassy and industry associations, MDBC will participate in Trade Exhibitions and matchmaking sessions whenever possible.  At exhibitions, MDBC members will be invited to present their products and services within a larger "Holland Pavilion".

MDBC strives to support our members as often as we can and to as great an extent as we can. Below is a summary of some of our special programmes:

Since 2004, MDBC has been able to coordinate the internships of more than 200 Dutch students in Malaysia.  Under MDBC's Student Internship Programme (SIP), the students find placements at MDBC member companies or related organizations.

MDBC organizes unique events under the banner of "Members-for-Members", member companies presenting their expertise and services to other members and guests.   Since 2004, the quarterly M4M sessions have provided a wealth of information-sharing and exposure opportunities for participating companies.

In 2009 it was decided to expand this "Members-for-Members" concept to a Card program which would allow us to improve business and cooperation amongst our members.  With the MDBC Card, members receive discounts and / or special services from their fellow members in a variety of industries such as consultancy, corporate services, hospitality, office facilities, logistics, transportation and many more!

Due to the increase of Dutch entrepreneurship in the Northern Region, the MDBC Penang Chapter was launched in 2010.  Directly and indirectly, this has already brought more than 25 Dutch and Malaysian organizations together under the Penang Chapter.
