About usThe Malaysian Dutch Business Council is a Malaysian private organisation established in 1996 by Malaysian and Dutch companies to foster business ties between Malaysia and the Netherlands.
Over the years, and especially around the time of our 10th anniversary, MDBC has grown into a well-established mid-sized trade support organisation.
Now with more than 170 member-companies, and with a new visual identity, MDBC can be considered one of the most active councils in Kuala Lumpur.
The MDBC has three objectives:
Information MDBC provides business information services to our members. MDBC also assists members and newcomers to the Malaysian market on issues related to setting up a company or a rep office here.
Networking & Events With regular (monthly) events, members can develop good business contacts, not only with the Dutch business community in Malaysia, but also with other foreign companies, Malaysian counterparts and government bodies.
Representation MDBC serves as a link to other bi-lateral Business Associations and Chambers of Commerce. We actively participate in the dialogue amongst European Union member states in Malaysia and we have a seat on the Board and Exco of the European-Union Malaysia Chamber of Commerce & Industry (EUMCCI).
We also have established relations with various government institutions. The common business interests of our members as well as individual needs of companies are voiced through MDBC to the appropriate authorities in Malaysia.
The broader aim of the Council is to further facilitate investment by Dutch and Malaysian companies in each other’s countries.
A wide range of possible areas of cooperation exist, especially concerning the transfer of Dutch technology to Malaysia and the use of the Netherlands as a gateway for Malaysian products to the European market.
Events, Promotion & Communication Events organised by MDBC include Business Luncheon-presentations, seminars, meetings & dialogue sessions with relevant Malaysian institutions and visits to companies, exhibitions or projects.
Numerous social networking events are organised together with other Business Associations and Chambers of Commerce to further extent networking opportunities.
Together with the Economic Section of the Netherlands Embassy and industry associations, MDBC will also initiate participation in various Trade Exhibitions. MDBC-members will be invited to present their products & services within a larger “Holland Pavilion”
In 2009, MDBC members received up to 42 event - invitations (an average of 3.5 per month!). MDBC organised 23 events for its members, and co-organised another 6 events in partnership with EUMCCI and Amcham. Another 10 EUMCCI events and 3 events hosted by the Netherlands Embassy were also communicated to our members. The variety of activities and events continues to be appreciated by our members, as well as the fact that different representatives from all levels in the organisation could attend different events, based on the topic / theme or 'level'. The wide variety of event venues also contributed to the attractiveness of our activities.
Latest developments in the business world and members-news will be communicated via the quarterly Magazine, via the organisation of informative & educational events or via our website and e-mailings. Besides the Magazine, MDBC also produces its Business Directory every
18 months.
MDBC has been able to quadruple its membership during the past six
years, and we continue to grow.
Virtually every business sector is represented in MDBC, including traditionally strong business sectors such as transport and logistics, information technology, trade, construction and dredging, agriculture & timber, manufacturing, oil and gas, machinery, education, financial services and FMCG/food products.
