MDBC Edu 360: MY Government Affairs

Dear Members,

MDBC and Vriens & Partners are pleased to invite you to our MDBC Edu 360: Government Affairs in Malaysia workshop. This workshop entails a half a day briefing catered to in – country business leaders, strategic planning, corporate, and public affairs personnel who would like an insider’s perspective on:

  • The  political structure and dynamics of government and policy making and how these impact businesses and their environment ; and
  • Ways to build strong and productive relationships with government stakeholders.

The workshop will be led by Vriens & Partners’ Malaysia Country Director, Senior Associate, and Senior Counselor. They will use real – world case studies to illuminate the political and government structures and dynamics that companies should take into account while doing business in the local market. They will also highlight some common policy issues faced by businesses across different industries, and review best practices for engagement, as well as common misconceptions.

The workshop is intended to allow business leaders the opportunity to get Vriens & Partners’ insider view on government affairs, and to discuss in an open dialogue, issues that may be at the forefront of their and your minds. Hence, participation for this session is limited to a maximum of 15 participants.

Please note that due to space constraints:

a) Registration is on a first come, first served basis.
b) This event is organised for MDBC members. Non – members can register their interest and will be placed on a waiting list.
c) We will be able to accept one (1) registration per MDBC member company (designations of participants at C – level only); additional representatives will be placed on a waiting list.

Furthermore:
d) A no – show or late cancellation charge of RM 250 per person will apply (for cancellations after Monday, 21 September (12 noon).
Replacement / substitute participant(s) are allowed but also expected to be C – level.
e) Fees payable are due latest by Wednesday, 23 September to confirm your registration.  MDBC’s bank details below.
f) The organisers reserve the right to postpone the workshop in case of low number of registrations.

Speakers:
Nazhif Yusoff  (Country Director, Vriens & Partners)

With the team, Nazhif Yusoff consults for clients from various verticals such as technology, healthcare, transportation and tourism, helping them develop their government relations strategy.

Previously, Nazhif was with the trade and investment team at Malaysia Petroleum Resources Corporation (MPRC), an agency under the Ministry of Economic Affairs. At MPRC, he developed the agency’s database of export opportunities and connected Malaysian oil and gas companies with opportunities overseas through the organization of trade and specialized marketing missions.

Shazwan Mustafa Kamal  (Senior Associate, Vriens & Partners)

Shazwan brings 10 years of professional experience in the field of politics, journalism, and the media. He consults for clients from various verticals such as technology, healthcare, and transportation.

From 2009 to 2020, Shazwan worked for online news portals the Malay Mail and The Malaysian Insider as an Assistant News Editor and Senior Journalist. Shazwan received his Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Monash University, and a Master in Diversity and the Media from the University of Westminster, UK.  He was also a 2012 Chevening scholarship recipient.

Dr Chua Hong Teck  (Senior Counselor, Vriens & Partners)

Dr. Chua Hong Teck has 35 years of experience working in the government, holding leadership positions in the Ministry of Finance, the Economic Planning Unit, the Ministry of Health, and the Prime Minister’s Department.

Key highlights of his time in public service include developing health, housing, welfare, women, and sports policies under the 10th Malaysia Plan, as well as overseeing the establishment of the Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) and Clinical Research Malaysia (CRM).
