Thank you to those who attended this event.
Dear MDBC Members,
Immediately following our New Year’s reception, we will bring you our first informative event of the year, the Outlook 2018. Subject – matter experts are flown into Malaysia to provide you with great insights into 2018 and to take you on a socio – political and economic / financial journey through Malaysia / ASEAN / the world.
Plenty of issues have kept us on edge throughout 2017 and surely we can expect the same in 2018.
Vriens & Partners: Political developments in ASEAN.
Vriens & Partners is a corporate advisory firm headquartered in Singapore, specializing in government affairs, public policy, and political risk analysis in Southeast Asia. Its mission is to build bridges between business, government, and society that support responsible, sustainable development in Southeast Asia. Senior Associate Malaysia, Adib Zalkapli, will provide the input on Malaysia, while Managing Partner, Hans Vriens will expand on ASEAN developments.
Rabobank: Financial and economic developments.
Rabobank is an international financial services provider, active in the area of banking, capital management, leasing, insurance, and real estate.
Michael Every (Head Financial Markets Research Asia-Pacific, Rabobank), will present a thematic global outlook ‘The Great Gamble’ looking at how high the stakes are, whether these big bets will pay off or not, and what it means for financial markets. The global economy appears to have suddenly hit a synchronized upturn, while Europe may have turned the corner politically. However, underlying problems from China’s unsustainable debts to Europe’s unfinished reforms, Brexit, and Trump’s unpredictability all remain unresolved. As inflation heads lower rather than higher, and wages refuse to move at all, central banks are now joining hands to talk of “policy normalization”. Given the same central banks led us into the 2008-09 crisis and have failed to generate an equitable recovery so far, it looks like a Great Gamble.
Each speaker will give a presentation, then be available for Q&A and round-table discussions.
