Thales Secures First Export Deal for HF XL Radio Systems With Malaysia

Thales has secured its first international export contract for land-based High – Frequency XL (HF XL) TRC 3900 radio systems with Malaysian partner Advanced Defence Systems.  The deal covers the delivery of more than 100 vehicle – mounted HF XL TRC 3900 stations, including radios, amplifiers, and antennas.  The new HF XL systems are designed to provide resilient, high – data – rate communications, enhancing Malaysia’s defense capabilities in both urban and remote environments.

Thales has been a key supplier to the Malaysian Army for over 25 years, delivering more than 10,000 radios during this period.

“This first export success confirms the relevance of HF XL in meeting the needs of armed forces operating in constrained environments,” said Christophe Groshenry, VP of Business Line Radiocommunications Products at Thales.

“By combining innovation with interoperability with existing fleets, Thales provides its customers with a robust, high – performance and future-ready solution.”

HF XL Radio System
According to the company, the HF XL system provides roughly 10 times the data rate of current HF radios.  It enables long – range communications in challenging environments, such as Malaysia’s tropical terrain.  It supports secure transmissions, low operating costs, and connectivity in remote areas or locations with limited satellite coverage.  The system is resistant to jamming and can handle large data files, including images, and video.

The TRC 3900 HF XL range includes 20 W manpack radios for mobile units, with a range of up to 1,000 kilometers (620 miles).  It also features 400 W and 1 kW radios, which allow command posts to communicate with headquarters and other units over distances up to 5,000 kilometers (3,100 miles).
