Thales is set to expedite the delivery of an undisclosed number of Australian-made Bushmaster protected mobility vehicles (PMVs) to the Netherlands in response to an urgent operational request.
The vehicles in their latest configuration will be produced and undergo systems integration in Australia, supporting the local industry and strengthening Canberra’s relations with European Union member states under the EU-Australia Security and Defence Partnership.
Andrew Downes, VP of Land for Thales Australia, described the Bushmaster as “one of Australia’s most trusted defence exports.”
“This collaboration demonstrates how government and industry can work together to move quickly when our partners need capability,” he added.
This announcement follows Australia’s 750-million Australian dollar ($538 million) investment in April to acquire an additional 268 next-generation Bushmaster vehicles, along with upgraded platforms, to enhance the Australian Defence Forces’ ground vehicle fleet.
Australian – Made Bushmaster Vehicle
Bushmaster PMVs are a combat-proven 4×4 platform measuring approximately 7 meters (23 feet) long, 2 meters (6.5 feet) wide, and weighing about 12,500 kilograms (27,558 pounds), seating up to 10 personnel.
It is fitted with NATO-standard armor to protect troops from explosive devices.
Powered by a 300-horsepower Caterpillar 3126E diesel engine, the platform can reach speeds of over 100 kilometers (62 miles) per hour and a range of 800 kilometers (497 miles).
The vehicle can be fitted with a remote weapon station or a crewed open turret capable of integrating 5.56mm and 7.62mm machine guns.
