Malaysia will acquire 263 military vehicles worth 164.91 million ringgit ($40.8 million) to boost its army’s tactical movement and scouting capabilities.

The package includes 163 Tedung (Cobra) 4×4 weapon carriers and 100 Kala (Scorpion) high – mobility reconnaissance vehicles.

Defence Minister Khaled Nordin officially named the platforms during a ceremony that involved participation from Wangsa Maju – based industry partner High Point Worldwide.

The company displayed the platforms’ final green-painted army models publicly for the first time at the event.

Acquisition Overview
Kuala Lumpur said the procurement was awarded in two contracts.

The first deal, valued at 92.91 million ringgit ($23 million), includes 80 Cobra automatic grenade launcher carriers and 83 in the heavy machine gun variant.

Based on the Brazilian Agrale Marruá AM250 double – cab transport and utility vehicle, the Cobra features a 170 – horsepower Cummins engine and full – time 4×4 drive.

The government said that the platforms can be reconfigured into command, radio, and cannon – towing variants, depending on future mission requirements.

Meanwhile, the 72 million ringgit ($17.8 million) Scorpion contract introduces a buggy – style chassis tailored for infantry reconnaissance.

While not specified which vehicle it was based on, the design features a Rotax 900cc ACEI turbocharged engine that supports output of up to 200 horsepower, a seating capacity for four fully equipped warfighters, and maneuverability across rugged terrain.
