Netherlands Considers Multi-Billion Armored Vehicle Deal for Local Firm

The Netherlands is considering awarding a multi – billion – dollar contract to Bunschoten based Van Halteren Technologies for the production of around 400 armored combat support vehicles (ACSVs) for the Royal Netherlands Army.  According to De Telegraaf, the family run company has emerged as the frontrunner among roughly 20 competing firms vying for the program.

The ACSV fleet is intended to support front-line units in transport, logistics, maintenance, and recovery roles. Additional specialized variants could include platforms fitted with anti-drone cannons and short-range anti-aircraft guns, expanding the vehicles’ operational versatility.  Earlier in 2025, Amsterdam sought more than 100 armored platforms to serve as a future support vehicle for the Dutch army’s 43rd Mechanized Brigade. Deliveries of the platform are expected between 2029 and 2031.

To Strengthen Dutch Industry
Van Halteren already supplies key components and subsystems for several major combat platforms operated by the Netherlands Armed Forces, including the CV90 infantry fighting vehicle, the Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzer, the Fennek reconnaissance vehicle, and the Leopard 2 main battle tank.  The company is reportedly seeking to expand its portfolio to participate in the construction of four Orka – class submarines, which are to be built by France’s Naval Group following their order by the Netherlands last year.

Amsterdam’s potential decision to award the contract domestically aligns with its broader effort to reinvest defense spending within the national industrial base, as the government moves to meet NATO’s target of allocating 5 percent of GDP to defense.
