Robin Unveils Ukraine – Tested IRIS Radar With Longer Detection Range

The Netherlands – based Robin Radar Systems has introduced a longer – range version of its counter – drone radar to strengthen defenses against combat drones like the Shahed. Developed through a software upgrade, the IRIS Long – Range Mode can switch between 5 kilometer (3.1 miles) and 12-kilometer (7.5 miles) detection ranges in a matter of minutes. The variable range gives operators more time to prepare for incoming Shaheds traveling at speeds exceeding 180 kilometers (111 miles) per hour.

“This upgrade isn’t just about range — it’s about time,” Robin Radar USA General Manager, Kristian Brost, said.

“Every extra kilometer of detection gives defenders more precious seconds to react, more chances to protect critical infrastructure, and ultimately, more lives saved.

By delivering this leap forward entirely through software, we’re showing how the decisive edge in counter – drone defence is no longer just built — it’s coded.”

Ukraine – Tested Radar

The system has been developed and stress – tested through extensive deployments of IRIS radars in Ukraine and has benefited from direct feedback from Ukrainian operators. Weighing just 29 kilograms (64 pounds), the IRIS radar is engineered to detect small, high – speed, low – signature drones while differentiating them from natural clutter like birds. It delivers early warning and precise tracking updates, even while in motion. The radar offers 360 – degree azimuth coverage and 60 – degree elevation. Like the IRIS, the upgraded version is designed to integrate into multi – sensor counter – unmanned aerial system architectures, with a strong emphasis on accuracy. It requires no hardware replacement, allowing all IRIS units to be upgraded in the field.

“This upgrade marks a step – change in what counter – drone radar can achieve,” Robin Radar Systems CEO, Siete Hamminga, explained.

“By listening to our users on the frontline, we’ve redefined the capabilities of an off – the – shelf system, delivering a battlefield – proven solution that is now being made available worldwide.

“As software continues to transform defence, it’s our every intention that Robin Radar will hold its position at the forefront of innovation.”
