MDBC: 24th AGM and CEO Talk

Dear MDBC members,

The Chairman and Board of Directors of the Malaysian Dutch Business Council (MDBC) would like to invite you to attend MDBC’s 24th Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the Financial Year ending 31 December 2020.

Due to the current circumstances, this year’s AGM will be taking place online at www.mdbc.com.my/agm-2021 via Zoom, with a quorum to be present virtually.  We intend to make this online AGM event available by Zoom link to enable live voting via polls for 1 (main) representative per company, and by YouTube livecast so that other members from the same company are also able to join and follow the AGM proceedings (albeit without voting rights).

As always, we are organizing an informative and motivational talk in conjunction with the AGM.  This year, we have the honor of presenting the MDBC CEO Talk: 4 CEOs from different sectors within our membership community who will share their experiences on changing their business model over the past 18 months.  Which steps have they taken to sustain or even improve their operations, revenue model, or value proposition; how have they maintained engagement with their clients; what are their experiences on team motivation and working in the new normal.

Our line – up of CEO Speakers: 

Roland Bala (Managing Director, HEINEKEN Malaysia)
Topic: Navigating the Crisis and Building a Sustainable FutureRoland Bala started his career with British Petroleum (BP) where he spent 16 years working in sales, logistics, operations, and planning roles in retail, gas and lubes businesses.   From 2012 to 2018, Roland was Managing Director of Cambodia Brewery Limited (HEINEKEN’s operating company in Cambodia) where he led the company to double its market share and become the market leader in the country. Since September 2018, Roland has been in his present role with HEINEKEN Malaysia, becoming the company’s first Malaysian MD in its history. Roland is also Governing Council Member of the Confederation of Malaysian Brewers Berhad.

Gerard Leeuwenburgh (Country General Manager, Informa Markets)
Topic: Shifting Business Models, Return to Market Strategies for a F2F Driven BusinessGerard was educated at INSEAD Business School in Singapore and Nyenrode Business University and Leiden University in the Netherlands. His career in the global event industry spans over 25 years.  In 2019 Gerard moved to Kuala Lumpur to join Informa – UBM Malaysia as Country General Manager. Apart from leading the Malaysian office Gerard leads the digital transformation of Informa Markets business in ASEAN.  Winner of the UFI Marketing Award in 2011 and invited speaker / panelist at various meeting industry events.

Marcos Nakagawa (General Manager, Unilever Malaysia & Singapore)
Topic: Focused on Staff / Team

Marcos joined Unilever in 1993 and brings more than 27 years of experience within the Unilever Group.  He has worked and lived in Brazil, the United States, Mexico, England, South Africa, Singapore, and most recently, in Vietnam, in which he was the Head for the Unilever SEAA Beauty and Personal Care Division.  He has worked in many of the local, regional, and global roles across the numerous categories that Unilever operates in.

Erik Winter (Managing Director, Volkswagen Malaysia)
Topic: Embracing Digitalisation in the New Normal

Erik Winter joined Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia in 2016 as its Managing Director, with a focus on increasing the customer satisfaction, strengthening its dealer network, and improving its aftersales service.  With a career spanning more than 16 years, Erik joined Europe’s biggest automotive retail specialist Porsche Holding Salzburg (PHS) upon completion of his studies and was attached to the different PHS business entities in Poland, China, Singapore, as well as in his home country, The Netherlands. PHS is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group.

Dr Sean O. Ferguson (Senior Associate Dean, Asia School of Business)

Dr. Sean O. Ferguson is is a management education industry opinion leader and has led degree programs at multiple global Top 50 global business schools.  He is actively involved with AACSB, the world’s largest management education accreditation body, serving as an accreditation mentor advising aspiring business schools on how to develop strategic coherence between their mission and approach to accreditation.  Sean received his doctorate in Global Education from the University of Southern California. His area of expertise focuses on employability and career management in Asia – Pacific. He also has an MBA from Rice University and a BS in Engineering from the University of Michigan – Ann Arbor.

Due to the current situation, kindly take note that this year:

  • The AGM notice (together with the AGM proxy form) will NOT be mailed by regular post to the principal representatives of MDBC member companies (based in Malaysia); you will only receive AGM invitations via email notifications; and
  • The audited accounts for this Financial Year 2020 will be made available by separate e – mail, sent solely to the principal representatives of MDBC member companies.
